The Nottingham Easter Egg run 2011

Some of the bikers at the 31st Nottingham Easter Egg Run
Sunday saw the 31st Annual Nottingham Easter Egg Run, now kindly organised by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Services and hosted by Mansfield Fire Station. A beautiful warm sunny April morning saw over 1,000 motorbikes gather at the Forest Recreation ground (the Goose fair site) but a charity ride over to Mansfield.

There's something really special about the event. To see so many motorbikes in one place, all the bikers gathered for a charity event really lifts your spirits. Every make and model and bike were represented, from scooters to trikes, sports bikes to customs, learners to classics.

Pictures don't do justice to the sight of 1,000 + bikes at the Forest Ground
When everyone started their bikes and gathered to leave the Forest Ground it was a beautiful moment. The sound of 1,000+ bike engines, throaty V-twins and revvy four strokes crawling out onto Mansfield Road with the air full of the smell of exhaust fumes really made your hairs stick up!

Along the way people had lined the streets, young and old, to wave, clap, take photos and video the event, and the congregation at St Paul's Church in Daybrook had come out to wave palm branches (it was Palm Sunday!). We were grinning from ear to ear inside our helmets! It was a touching and heart warming ride.

Some of the 2,500 eggs donated from the Egg Run for disadvantaged local children
Last year raised over £2,000 and collected 2,000 eggs. This year looked to have beaten that.

The Easter Egg Run is in aid of disadvantaged children and children with special needs within the community. Money raised this year will also be used to send a terminally ill child to Lapland at Christmas.
A well-deserved cool down, a cup of tea and a raffle at Mansfield Fire Station afterwards
A big thank you to Tim Marston from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Services and his colleagues and friends who put the time and effort in to organise the event and who will be delivering the eggs to disadvantaged children in the area shortly.

Feel free to add your comments if you were there! For more information visit the Egg Run website.

Not long until next Easter...
