British Motor Show cancelled

Rather amazingly the 2010 British Motor Show is to be cancelled due to the current financial climate. After consultation with UK motor industry representatives, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) called off the London show, citing the inability of the car companies to commit to a 2010 exhibition.

"The British International Motor Show is the UK's largest consumer exhibition, hugely popular with the public, and has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors over recent years, making the decision to cancel the 2010 Show an extremely difficult one. However, the global credit crunch has placed the automotive sector under unique pressure and has created a level of uncertainty that deters manufacturers from committing to large-scale, international events," said SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt.

Surely the best thing to do to get the general public to start buying new cars again is not just to advertise them but to let them meet the cars in the flesh, in an exciting, sexy environment that will seduce the buyer, encouraging them to place an order? Yet another example of short-term cost cutting without thinking of the consequences. Does this not send an alarming message to anyone who is thinking of buying a car? What few buyers are out there will surely be concerned.

It's hoped that the show will return 'within the next few years'.

To end on a high note, here's a lovely new Lamborghini model that won't be at the show, and beautifully done in the Liv Design colours especially for us... or not.
